For ‘Giving Tuesday’ and all the other days too…

Giving Tuesday is great because it gets folks in the spirit of giving, but a bit daunting trying to know where to actually do the giving. These are some of my favorite local nonprofits to support with my time and finances all year round.

Youth Mart

Partnership for Hope’s Youth Mart provides furnishings and essentials for young people in the Omaha area that have aged out of the foster care system. The young folks served by the partner organizations get to come to Youth Mart shop for whatever they may need, completely free of charge. Ongoing services are offered on a periodic basis, as well as the opportunity to pick up more supplies to help them maintain their financial security as they learn to navigate the “adulting” world.

Grasslands Unlimited

POCKET PRAIRIES! Grasslands Unlimited is a prairie conservation group dedicated to restoring prairie ecosystems across the Great Plains region. They’ve recently relocated from Colorado to Omaha, NE, and I’m absolutely thrilled that there’s finally someone here with the expertise to throw a pocket prairie in just about every space that we can get our hands on.

Access Period

If you live in Omaha, you’re likely to see Access Period popping up in a restroom near you! They provide cost-free menstrual supplies in schools, businesses, tiny libraries, and all sorts of other places that are working to raise awareness around period poverty in our community.

Nebraska Monarchs

Hooray for butterflies! Nebraska Monarchs is a tiny but mighty organization doing the work here in Omaha to bring native pollinator plants to as many yards and parks as possible, at no cost to gardeners. From milkweed seed packets to plant giveaways, they do it all!

Trans Stitchin’

Trans Stitchin’ provides gender-affirming clothing, accessories, and resources to members of the Omaha community. Donations of clothing and makeup products are a constant need, as well as financial support to keep the closet up and running for community members to visit free of charge.
