One of the first steps toward a zero-waste lifestyle is reducing the amount of “stuff” we acquire. This may include:

  • Refusing single-use items
  • Considering our relationship with “things”
  • Unpacking consumerist mindsets

As you work on reducing your impact and evaluating your relationship with possessions, it can be fun and empowering to practice reusing your items. Before disposing of items ask yourself:

  • How can I repurpose this object?
  • Should I hold onto it for that purpose, or gift it to someone else?

When you do throw something away, do you think about where ‘away’ is? Learning about the waste management services available in your area is crucial for keeping waste out of our landfills and the environment.

Unfortunately, waste management services are different in every community. Things to look into in your area include:

  • Is curbside recycling offered?
  • Are there industrial composting services nearby?
  • What types of drop-off recycling centers exist?

  • Household Appliance Repair (ie: Dishwasher)
